BOB   McCARTHY

Bob is well known in Sarnia-Lambton.

 

As an educator, he has been active in founding, organizing, and promoting youth conferences and exchanges, and has worked on various committees pursuing excellence in education.  In service to the community he has participated in and chaired various committees and organizations, and in 2003, he chaired the Safe Communities Foundation National Conference held in Lambton County.

 

His service to education and the community has been recognized with many awards:

• Bob Brooks Award, a provincial award recognizing “Excellence in School-Community Relations”,

• the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada,

• a Community Achievement Award given by the Addiction Research Foundation,

• recognition on the City of Sarnia Mayor’s Honour List.

 

Since his retirement from teaching for the Lambton-Kent District School Board, Bob has been active in making the history of Lambton County available and interesting to students and others through his writing, radio talks and visual history projects.

 

He has written three novels based on the lives of his ancestors and seven books about Lambton history.
